"I wish something really exciting would happen to me now," said So-me.
School had finished for the day and he was walking with his friends to the
shops.
"How exciting?" asked Hone.

"Like going to a fun park," said So-me.

"Like getting a pet-perhaps a tortoise, or a kitten, or a puppy...?

"Or maybe going for a picnic in the bush?"

"Like finding a million dollars?" suggested Kiri. "With that amount of
'dough' you could buy all the things you want."

It was rubbish day-perhaps the piles of junk covered some hidden treasure?

So-me knocked over a battered blue suitcase, and out spilled bundles of
Monopoly money. Jackpot!

"You¹ve found you million dollars," called out Kiri. So-me picked up the
money and wondered what to do with it.!
"You can't eat dollars," she said, "it's too dirty to put in your mouth.
Yuk!"

"You soon get tired of looking at the pictures," said So-me.

"It's not big enough to make a dart," said La-me, taking out his tape
measure.
"It's useless to write on," said Kiri, pretending to write a note on a note.

"There's not much to read on dollars," said Hone, who was upside down at the
time.
"You can't sing dollars," said La-so-me.

So-me's dough!
So-me's dough!
Dollars, dollars, mighty dollars!
So-me's dough
Eat ya heart out, grind ya molars!

He grabbed two fists full of dollar notes and squeezed them tight.
"This is my sign for doh," he said, "and that's final."

"You could give some to me," said Hone.
"You could give some to me," said La-me.
"You could give some to me," said Ta-i.
"You could give some to me," said Kiri.

.

So-me gave them all a fist full of the paper money, and when they felt the
dollars in their hands they each said, "Ta- a."
"That's like two monster Ta beats joined together," observed Ta-i.

"When the dough's being handed around it often pays to make your note of
thanks twice as long as usual," explained So-me.
"Are the dohs in singing like that?" asked Kiri.

"Sometimes."
"You see," he said slowly and knowingly, "the end of my Money Song is made
up of two parts."
The rhythm pattern goes-
Ta Ta Ta-a and the tune goes-

Put them together and you can write them in code like this-

The children had become so interested in the Monopoly money that they forgot
to go to the shops.

Next day at school when they told Mrs Clapham what they had been doing, she
asked them to write their Money Song on a large wall chart.

They wrote it alongside the new song for that day.
Some of the children could already read it by themselves. Can you?
