The Musicplay for Kindergarten Big Book is a coiled 11x17 book that illustrates the musical concepts that are taught in the kindergarten curriculum. Many of the short songs in the program are charted, so that beginning readers can read the words. Many of these short songs are also used to have the kindergarten students begin to read rhythm and melody. The book includes suggestions on how to use each page.

If they then track the words to the song on a chart or a storybook, they will add to the vocabulary of sight words that they recognize. A single big book can cost as much as $40! Photocopy the story from the reproducible story book. Have a parent volunteer cut up the pages and staple them in the correct order. (They are easy to put together - no folds) The title page for each story is left blank so the child can draw a picture showing what the song makes them think of. If the children wish to, they can color the pictures in the book. Sing the song as a class, sing or read with the Big Storybook, and then have the children track the words in their own storybook. These collections contain the same stories as the Big Storybook chant books. Read the story from the Big Story Book in your classroom. Give the children individual little books to read along or to take home and practice with their parents.
